Microsoft recently announced the launch of Windows 365, which will let businesses stream Cloud PCs to web browsers on virtually any device.

In 2020 we saw a profound shift to work-from-home. Now that offices are re-opening, businesses are finding that remote work is here to stay. Workers still want flexible options to be able to work from home, office, coffeeshop, anywhere. Enter the Cloud PC.

Microsoft recently announced the launch of Windows 365, which will let businesses stream Cloud PCs to web browsers on virtually any device, from Mac and Linux machines to iOS and Android tablets and even phones. Starting on August 2, Windows 365 will be available in a wide variety of configurations. Businesses will to able to choose:

  • Business or Enterprise edition
  • Windows 10 or Windows 11 (when available)
  • 1 to 8 CPUs
  • 2 to 32 GB of RAM
  • 64 to 512 GB of storage

Pricing has not officially been released yet, but a screen share in an Ignite partner conference inadvertently revealed a price of $31 per month for one of the many SKUs that will be available.

This is exciting news for businesses that have a large remote workforce, hybrid teams that alternate between home and office, or employees who are frequently on the road and log in from the car, airport, hotel room. The “instant on-boot experience” will save users’ applications, data and settings to deliver a consistent experience across devices. Per Microsoft, “You can pick up right where you left off, because the state of your Cloud PC remains the same, even when you switch devices.”

Windows 365 will eliminate the need for company-issued laptops and hardware, which can have a high up-front cost and takes time to onboard. While Windows 365 will be powered by Azure Virtual Desktop, it will be simplified and much easier for businesses to spin up and assign cloud PCs.
